You can be part of Avnø in many ways: Core member, member, explorer, volunteer, co-liver, student or guest.

Who will you find here?

A small group of core members live here all year round. Members stay here on and off. Volunteers, students & guests are here for a limited period. Some return again and again. Usually we are 8-14 nationalities, age 3-79, around the table. In some periods we are 30-40 people – in other periods especially the winter, when we have few activities we may only be 10-15.

We compassionately connect to ourselves, each other & the environment and contribute towards a thriving planet.

Our everyday life

Our days are filled with a variety of activities. After breakfast, we meet for a morning circle singing a song, sharing announcements & intentions for the day.

Working hours are flexible to find balance between personal needs, social time and the needs of the community.

Weekly happenings

Our weekly wellbeing meeting is a temperature check on personal and communal well-being. Here we bring up subjects that need attention.

Our weekly sharing circle is a powerful opportunity to stay in touch with what is alive in ourselves and in others.

Special happenings

Some evenings and afternoons somebody arranges social activities or parties with themes (Image from Guess which vegetable-party). When new people arrive we have an opening circle and when people leave a closing circle. Community meetings are held when requested.

Throughout the year we host guests and events and hold shorter and longer courses.

Accommodation

All bedrooms have private bathrooms. Nature is right outside the window with views to forest, yard or sea.

Volunteers

If you are eager to be a (temporary) part of our community, put your body, mind & soul in an intense combination of social interaction, research, experiment, design, practical tasks, and the creation of a more sustainable model of life, we invite you to apply for one of our volunteering positions.

I miss you all more than I can say. Since I left the community, it has felt somehow unreal, as if it were only temporary, as if at any moment I might come back and find all of you there again, as if no time had passed. I’m now moving through different Workaway experiences. We’re currently in Germany, heading to the Netherlands next week, and then to Sweden from May to August. I don’t really know what the future holds, but I often look back at the time I lived there with you with a deep smile. Living in Avnø for four months was an amazing experience. I came back home, grown and evolved. The experience of a community life is incredible, I realized how it’s important to connect with the people that are surrounding us and the relationships that I created were deeper there. I learned a lot about myself, the others and the community. It really changed my perception of life, leaving was hard, now I’m thinking of these moments every day!
